Traditional Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy—also known as “talk therapy”—is a type of treatment that can help individuals experiencing a wide array of mental health conditions and emotional challenges. Psychotherapy can help not only alleviate symptoms, but also, certain types of psychotherapies can help identify the psychological root causes of one’s condition so a person can function better and have enhanced emotional well-being and healing.
Therapy sessions are typically held once a week for about 45 to 50 minutes. Both client and therapist need to be actively engaged in psychotherapy. The trust and relationship between a client and therapist are important for a collaborative partnership to exist that promotes meaningful and sustainable gains during therapy.
Psychotherapy can be short-term (a few weeks to months), dealing with more immediate challenges, or long-term (months to years), dealing with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of therapy and duration and frequency of treatment are agreed upon between the client and therapist to guide the therapeutic process. Confidentiality and privacy are basic requirements of psychotherapy.
Is traditional psychotherapy right for me?
If you are unsure whether individual psychotherapy is the right fit for you, consider the following questions:
- Do you struggle to cope with the challenges of everyday life?
- Are you hesitant to talk to others about your problems?
- Could you use the help of an objective, trained professional who won't judge you?
- Does your mental and emotional issues go unaddressed out of fear of being viewed as weak?
- Are you looking for ways to improve yourself and your life?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then traditional in-person or virtual psychotherapy may be the right choice for you. Please reach out to me today for a free 15-minute consultation or to schedule your first appointment.
